A DANCE troupe provided plenty of belly laughs when they helped boost a charity drive to build an entertainment room for sick children.
Hope 4 Kidz is raising funds for the facility for young patients at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
The £10,000 drive aims to convert a room at the hospital for the use of teenagers and will include specially-designed murals, a large screen TV, music centre and state-of-the-art games to help improve the lives of hospitalised teenagers.
Now the Pennywell-based charity, which has reached the halfway point in its fund-raising, has organised a “entertainment and shopping” event at the Pullman Lodge in Seaburn tonight.
It will feature more than 50 stalls, selling everything from men’s grooming products, boys’ toys, cup cakes to hair and beauty products, jewellery, fashion and accessories.
The Belly Dance Moves company joined staff from tool and equipment firm Ezetool to help publicise this evening’s event. The Wearside-based businesses are among those supporting the charity.
Viv Watts, chief executive of Hope 4 Kidz, said she hoped the fund-raiser would be a big success.
“The belly dancers will be giving a demonstration on stage and are giving their time free of charge,” she said. “Ezetool is also holding a ‘boys’ toys’ stall at the event and has made a very kind donation to the charity.
“We’re hoping tonight will be a big success.
“Drag artiste Ophelia Balls and Beatroute disco will continue the celebrations late into the night.
“There will also be fund-raising raffles and auctions.”
The event will take place at the Pullman Lodge, Whitburn Road, Seaburn, at 7pm.
Tickets are £5, which includes fish and chips and glass of wine, and can be bought at the Pullman Lodge or by calling 534 7788, or 0781 8023081.
