ONE of the North East’s best-loved singers is promising a show packed with music and conversation.

Opera star Graeme Danby will perform at the Customs House on Sunday night.

He will be joined in concert by soprano Valerie Reid and music students from Sunderland University, where he is Visiting Professor of Music.

The show will be hosted by Jeff Brown, of BBC Look North, who will interview Graeme about his career at the Royal Opera House, and English National Opera.

The programme will feature music from the great opera houses of the world, as well as numbers from Broadway.

Graeme will also sing from the Northumbrian songbook, celebrating the rich musical tradition of the North East.

The event follows a festival of performances at the Customs House, staged by the university.

Customs House director Ray Spencer said: “This is a rare opportunity to hear one of the world’s leading singers.

“Graeme Danby has one of the most distinctive bass voices of his generation.

“We are looking forward to hearing him sing with some of his students.”

Tickets are available from the Customs House.
