Large amounts of cannabis and cash found as police search vehicle in Sunderland

Northumbria Police have arrested three men after discovering a large amount of cannabis and cash while carrying out a stop search on a vehicle in Silksworth.

Police carried out the search shortly before 9pm on Thursday, February 4, on Silksworth Lane in Sunderland.

It is understood that the vehicle smelt strongly of cannabis and on further inspection, officers discovered a large quantity of the drug and cash.

They proceeded to arrest three men on suspicion of drug offences – all have been released pending further investigation.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Yesterday (Thursday) shortly before 9pm officers carried out a stop search on a vehicle which smelled strongly of cannabis near The Scullery, Silksworth Lane.

“Officers discovered a large quantity of cannabis and cash and subsequently arrested three men on suspicion of drug offences.

“All three have been released under investigation.”
