A 44-year-old recording of a Sunderland school brass band has been discovered.

And for the first time since 1977, you can hear it once more.

The Bede School brass band is in full flow in this recording where songs such as I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles and By The Light of the Silvery Moon are included – complete with audience participation.

The recording was shared with us by former band member Richard Geere whose mother Norah Harbord recorded it all.

Richard said: “The audience sings along at one point. There was nothing listed in the programme about a singalong, it was just one of those impromptu things. A nice moment where the community came together through music.”

The show also included The Colonel Bogey March and a rendition of If I Ruled The World which was a big favourite with the nation after it was made famous by Sir Harry Secombe.

The wonderful recording comes just three months after another Bede School audio tape was discovered by another person.

Now comes another tape but this time from 1977 and we thank Richard Geere for this wonderful reminder.
