Visitors to the coast enjoyed a trip down memory lane with a good old-fashioned fun day at the seaside.

With entertainment from a Punch and Judy show, music, children’s entertainers, face painting, storytelling, sandcastle building and much more, families enjoyed a great summer’s day out.

As well as building sandcastles, youngsters on Roker Beach were invited to take part in Katie Paterson's nationwide event by creating sand sculptures in the shape of major global mountains. Picture by Nikolaos Axelis
