Kevin Morris tricked Kieran, 10, and six-year-old Lillie into thinking that Grange Park Primary School had lifted its lock-down and they had to get ready for class.

He even let the pair get as far as the family car before revealing the truth.

Kevin and wife Samatha, both 38, from Southwick, have been taking it in turns to look after the children, each working four days off and four days on, Kevin as a haulage driver for a firm dealing with NHS clinical waste and Karen as a care worker.

The couple have been homeschooling the pair, but bedtimes have slipped back with no need to get up so early in the morning.

When Lillie and Kieran were still in bed at 8am yesterday, he saw his chance.

“They are normally up before me, but this time I had to wake them up, so I knew it was going to work straightway, because they were barely awake,” he said.

“I didn’t give them any breakfast, because they normally go to breakfast club at school, so I was just telling them them to hurry up or we were going to be late.

“I managed to get them to the car, but we are self-isolating, so I couldn’t take them any further and that’s when I told them.”

Kevin shared his video of the pair with Samatha, who was at work: “She didn’t know what I had done,” he said.

“She said ‘You’re absolutely horrible to those kids – it is funny, though’.”

Kevin also shared the video on his Facebook page – and was amazed to see the reaction as family and friends shared the clip.

“It has gone up to around three-quarter of a million shares now,” he said.

“It goes up every single time I look – I had to put my phone on silent.”

In the end, though, Lillie had the last laugh: “She said ‘I am keeping my uniform on and you can wash it at the end of the day’,” said Kevin.
