Work on transformation of Testo's into A19 flyover continues after festive break...

Sunderland City Council's Cabinet Member for Dynamic City, Councillor Rebecca Atkinson, said: "As a council we are committed to continually upgrading and improving our highways network for residents and businesses.

"Due to the national lockdown currently in place, there is a significant reduction in traffic at the junction at the moment, so we are taking this opportunity to undertake essential work at a time that allows disruption to be minimised.

“We would like to thank motorists and residents for their patience as we complete these upgrades.”

The A19 is currently undergoing a major upgrade which involves Testo’s Roundabout being transformed into a flyover so that traffic on the route will no longer need to stop and negotiate the junction, cutting down congestion and travel times.

Work to date includes an additional lane added to the A19 southbound exit slip road and westbound B1286 City Way.

Alterations to traffic signal equipment, street lighting, footways and landscaping within these areas are also near completion.
