The Black Cats beat today’s opponents in their last outing, picking up a comfortable 3-0 victory in the Papa John’s Trophy in midweek courtesy of an own goal and strikes from Aiden McGeady and Charlie Wyke.

Despite that comprehensive display, the Wearsiders have made wholesale changes for this afternoon’s game.

Lee Burge returns between the sticks, while Bailey Wright is back in at the heart of defence alongside Tom Flanagan. Southampton loanee Jake Vokins makes his debut for the club.

Grant Leadbitter comes into the centre of midfield, while McGeady and Wyke are back in the starting XI after their goal-scoring exploits on Tuesday.

Jack Diamond, Josh Scowen, and Jordan Jones all drop out.

Here are some of the best reactions from fans on Twitter:

@LBaxterrr tweeted:“Criminal that he's dropped Jones after Tuesday’s performance”.

@Parkersafc tweeted: “Again my immediate thought is… Look at those options from the bench.”

@Jaydenhanlon07 tweeted: “Where’s the real team lads?”

@MikeyCowie1999 tweeted: “Why O’Brien continues to start week in, week out baffles me”

@Jay_Alderson04 tweeted: “Surely Jones has to start ahead of O’Brien, no??”

@AdamLowden10 tweeted: “Is this a joke?”

@davis0688 tweeted: “Would have started Scowen and Diamond ahead of Leadbitter and O’Brien. If they pass round our press I don’t think Leadbitter has the legs for this one. Would criticise Willis not playing but that’s potentially managing his injury”.
