Every new car buyer likes a bargain but how does £27,000 off an Audi or £10,000 off a BMW strike you?
Thanks to new emissions testing dealers are offering staggering discounts on some models as they look to move on older stock.
Among the most impressive examples found by buying site carwow are an Audi R8 V10 Plus, currently available for a whopping £27,329 below list price and a Merecedes GLE with £11,316 knocked off its regular price.
More mainstream models such as the Nissan Qashqai, Seat Leon and Volvo XC60 are also being offered for thousands of pounds under their usual list price.
Since September 1 manufacturers have only been allowed to sell new models that have been tested under more stringent Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). This has led to dealers stocking up and pre-registering new vehicles that aren’t WLTP approved – new registrations were up 23 per cent last month.

As they were registered before the September 1 cutoff the cars can be sold despite not meeting the WLTP standards but dealers are now offering some huge discounts to clear their forecourts of the stock.
Alex Rose, trading director at carwow, said: “Manufacturers and dealers have been racing to get new cars registered.
“All vehicles not compliant with new emissions testing standards needed to be registered before the start of this month.
“So with so much stock now available, expect savings and incentives to continue for a good few weeks to come.”
Among the best offers from dealers trying to sell on pre-registered stock are £9,649 off a BMW X5, £8,378 off a Mercedes GLC and £6,409 off the new Volvo XC60.
