This fabulous venue opened just two years ago, in the former The Marquis of Granby pub on on Streetgate in Sunniside, Newcastle.

It’s a sister venue to the established Namaste Restaurant and Kings Prosecco Lounge in South Shields – which has just scooped a Best Restaurant award.

As well as offering traditional curries the Namaste Restaurant and takeaway also specialises in modern South Indian fusion foods.

The Sunniside venue came from a great pedigree, and was set up by those behind its sister venue in South Shields. The South Shields Namaste was named best restaurant for the North East in the 10th English Curry Awards held this year, which recognises quality Indian cuisine across different regions. This is the third award for the restaurant, which has been open for five years. Not to be out-done the Sunniside venue was a runner-up for its customer service in the same awards.

The awards are held in Birmingham and Razz Ahmed, of Namaste Exclusive Indian Restaurant, was delighted to receive the prestigious trophy.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without the support from our incredible customers, thank you for all your support!” he said. “Thank you to all our friends and family and a big thank you to the team at Namaste, our front of house staff, and back staff for making this become a reality.”.

He explained why the venue is a cut above and can offer the discerning customer something different.

“Because we are not located in the busy city centre, we offer an exclusive, relaxing and chilled-out environment for our customers,” he said.

“We have everything under one roof – it’s something a bit different and means you can stay in one place all night.”

The menu offers all the favourite dishes for those who love a traditional curry, but also offers modern South Indian cuisine. For those who are not as familiar with the tastes of South Indian cuisine Razz explains: “It’s all about sweet and sour, seafood and different flavours. It can be more creamy and it’s more of a subtle spicy taste”
