RECAP: Busy scenes at Stack Seaburn, Cooper Rose and pub beer gardens across Sunderland as lockdown eases

It’s been months since customers were last able to enjoy a pint or a glass of wine at a restaurant or pub.

But as lockdown eases family and friends are now able to head to outdoor cafes and restaurants and beer gardens as businesses reopen for the first time since early November 2020 – before the second lockdown was imposed.

On Monday, April 12 – in line with Prime Minister Boris Johnson roadmap to easing lockdown – parts of the hospitality industry have been able to reopen alongside hairdressers, gyms and non-essential retailers.

Despite the chilly weather – it’s no April heatwave like we saw in 2020 – friends and family have turned out to enjoy a coffee, slice of cake or pint somewhere other than their own home.

The rule-of-six applies to outdoor public places meaning friends area able to reunite as restrictions, which have been in place since early January, begin to ease.

We head along to some Sunderland establishments to see how they’re doing on their first day back.
