Whitburn hold a two-point lead over Steels in Group One of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker Summer League after a 3-1 win at home to The Victory.

John Smith was in impressive form as breaks of 40 and 22 saw him win the first frame before Tony Hazard continued his good form winning a high scoring second frame against Gerry Porter 95-58.

A 26-break helped Joseph Cromby win the third frame before Ray James/John Butler beat Graeme Ablett and new signing Mark Fox 66-54 for a consolation point.

Paul Stoves got Lumley A off to a good start away at Steels when he defeated Jimmy Gales.

Lee Norton levelled the match when he beat Stephen Rushworth 57-14.

A 36-break helped Ray Charlton Junior move Steels into the lead, before Ray Charlton Snr/Tommy Ayre claimed the pairs against Paul Stoves/Joe Nord 69-49 for the 3-1 win.

Pennywell Comrades travelled to Murton Officials and started well with Steven Smith winning the first frame with the aid of a 26 break.

Manna Singh levelled the match, beating Stuart Taylor 68-39, before Joe Turner potted the black to see off Colin Dobson.

In the pairs, Smith/Joe Turner beat Bobby Carne/Justin Ebdy 64-37 for the 3-1 win.

In Group Two, the match between South Hylton and Biddick was postponed due to a shortage of Biddick players.

Gary Stockton got Seaham Conservatives off to a great start away at Lumley B against Kevin Chapman.

Gordon Elliott quickly won the second frame against Brian Meuse.

A shortage of Lumley players meant Seaham won the third frame and Robert Cougle/Ian Hughes won a close pairs frame against Kevin Chapman/Meuse to complete the whitewash.

Farringdon welcomed Murton Colliery and got off to an excellent start with Ryan McKenna getting a 27 break to help win the first frame 77-15.

Eddie Williamson leveled the match before Jackson Mason moved Murton into the lead, beating Paul Brooke 60-40.

In the pairs, Jackson Mason/Williamson beat Brooke/Dave Robinson 52-39 for the 3-1 win.
