Extra 100 tickets released to see The Lake Poets perform Shipyards at hometown Sunderland show

The Lake Poets has just released an extra 100 tickets for a hometown show in a whirlwind week which has seen him make No4 on the iTunes chart.

The singer-songwriter has touched the hearts of many with his poignant lament about Sunderland’s shipbuilding heritage, Shipyards, which features on the new Netflix docu-series Sunderland ‘Til I Die.

Although the song was released in 2015, the success of the show, which follows SAFC during their emotional relegation dogfight last season, has introduced the track to a whole new audience.

As well as a surge in sales helping it hit the top 5 in the iTunes chart, a campaign has been started to get The Lake Poets - aka Martin Longstaff from East Herrington- to perform the track on the pitch at the Stadium of Light ahead of the Boxing Day clash against Bradford City FC.

In a week which saw Martin drawing support from the likes of comedian and presenter James Corden, Niall Horan from One Direction and SAFC owner Steward Donald, the singer-songwriter announced a hometown show at Independent, Holmeside, at 8pm on December 29.

It quickly sold out and another 100 tickets, priced £12 each, have been released this afternoon after the show was moved to the bigger downstairs room at Independent.
