Police are investigating night-time Sunderland city centre 'disturbance'

Northumbria Police have confirmed they are investigating a disturbance in Sunderland city centre.

The incident took place at around 11pm on Friday, October 9, near the Empire Cinema, in West Wear Street.

Northumbria Police attended the scene, opposite the former Echo building, after the alarm was raised although there was no one there when they arrived.

Despite the lack of people, police did say there was broken glass on the ground, suggesting that an incident had taken place.

Officers have confirmed that they are investigating the incident and inquiries are ongoing to trace the people involved.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “We had a report of a disturbance involving a vehicle on West Wear Street at around 11pm last night.
