A man has been charged in connection with the suspected disappearance of a police car’s blue lights.

The British Transport Police (BTP) investigation made national headlines following an incident last Christmas.

The lights are said to have been taken from a police car outside Sunderland’s main railway station at around 4.30am on Boxing Day.

A 28-year-old man was later arrested, released under investigation and is now charged with theft from a motor vehicle.

He will appear before South Tyneside Magistrates’s Court in March 2020.
