Convicted murderer Lee Nevins back behind bars after being found in Washington

A convicted murderer who was on the run from the police after escaping prison is back behind bars after being located and arrested in Washington.

Lee Nevins was found guilty of the murder of Lee Jobling In Gateshead in November 2006 and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The 39-year-old was on a period of leave on temporary licence from HMP Sudbury, in Derbyshire, but failed to return on Tuesday (September 27).

An initial post from the police on September 29 said that Nevins had connections with Chester-le-Street and other parts of the North East, however it was Washington in the city of Sunderland where he was eventually found.

A shared social media post from Northumbria and Derbyshire Police said: “Lee Nevins, who we were attempting to trace after he failed to return to HMP Sudbury, is no longer being sought by officers. He was located by officers from Northumbria Police in Washington on Saturday October 8. Thank you to all who shared our appeal to trace him.”
