New year, new you?

Up and down the country, people are deciding on their new year’s resolutions – with many pledging to be more healthy, whether it’s changing diet or taking part in more exercise.

But would you like to try a plant-based diet?

At time of writing, more than 1,600 people had voted in our daily Facebook poll which asked: “As thousands take part in Veganuary, would you consider trying a plant-based diet?”

Only 26% opted to give it a go, with 74% of those who took part voting “no”.

Here is how you reacted on the Sunderland Echo Facebook page:

Eleanor Forster: “I'm cutting down on meat and fish but won't give either up completely. One of my daughters is vegan and I always eat and serve vegan when she visits.

“I find it an extreme diet, unlike vegetarianism. The vegan diet can be quite expensive.”

Peeta Stebbenwolf: “I can’t see why this issue bothers people. I cook a lot of vegan stuff at home and often order vegan options, though I’m too lazy to go full vegan.”

Chris Hall: “A healthy diet also cuts down on diabetes and heart disease. Also exercise does this too.”

Chris Sumby: “Vegan substitute foods are absolutely horrendous for fats and sugars.”

Bryan Burrow: “Vegan food is generally tastier, healthier, cruelty free, but most importantly it helps to combat climate change.”

Ken Ellison: “All you have to do is stop your sugar clean your food up eat lean meat and exercise more. Simple.”
