Headline sponsor ASHN NENC looks ahead to this month’s North East Life Sciences Conference 2022.

The spotlight is on the region’s life sciences sector this month, as a major conference comes to the North East – with the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria (AHSN NENC) announced as headline sponsor.

The North East Life Sciences Conference 2022, will bring together healthcare professionals, politicians, business leaders, media and experts in the field, to discuss some of the biggest healthcare problems of our generation.

The AHSN NENC is proud to back this timely and important event at the Catalyst, Newcastle’s Helix, on September 13, as the region – a hot spot for UK life sciences – looks to its ambitious 2030 growth plans for the sector, aligned with the UK Life Sciences Vision.

The organisation works closely with the NHS, academia and industry, to drive forward innovations that address unmet needs within healthcare.

Its Innovation Pathway supports collaboration between SMEs, healthcare teams, academics, and more, to seize the tremendous opportunities for innovation in the NHS, against the backdrop of healthcare challenges and the inequalities faced beyond COVID-19.

As headline sponsor, the AHSN NENC is ideally placed to reinforce the need for engagement between the NHS, academia, industry and Government, to strengthen future ways of working. It looks forward to exploring key issues within the sector including digital innovation, sustainability and the region’s green ambitions, as well as the skills needed for growth across all areas of life sciences.

AHSN NENC Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nicola Hutchinson, a Sunderland University Alumni and recipient of the University’s prestigious Alumni Achiever of the Year Award 2022, will join a panel of leading experts, to discuss the region’s achievements, and the importance of innovation, investment and skills, to tackle inequalities and the region and support the huge potential for growth in the sector.

Speaking about the event, Dr Hutchinson, said: “As home to many exciting life sciences companies, our region is bursting at the seams with innovation. We’re thrilled to be celebrating that as key sponsor of the North East Life Sciences Conference 2022.

“At the AHSN NENC, we are passionate about supporting innovative thinking and encouraging it to thrive. Through our Innovation Pathway, we offer fantastic opportunities for companies to grow and diversify within health and social care, driving innovation and adoption which improves both people’s health and the region’s economy.

“We’re delighted to see our region in the spotlight and playing host to such an important event. It will be great to meet at The Catalyst in September, reflect on how far we have come collectively as a region and explore future opportunities to put the North East and North Cumbria on the map.”
