The duo haven’t met since a League Cup in August 2003, when a David Artell own-goal and an injury time strike from Kevin Kyle handed the Black Cats a 2-1 win at Field Mill.
So who played that day, and what happened to them? Scroll down and click through the pages as we take a look:
1. MART POOM
Sunderland’s own goal-scoring goalkeeper, Poom has gone down in folklore on Wearside after his spell at the Stadium of Light early in the millennium. He’s now working as the goalkeeping coach for the Estonian national team, having returned to his homeland upon retirement. Photo: Laurence Griffiths
2. PHIL BABB
The former Liverpool and Coventry defender spent two years on Wearside towards the end of his career, and had a brief managerial stint at Hayes & Yeading after retiring. Prior to that, he had stepped-in to stop magazine ‘Golf Punk’ from folding in 2006. Babb is now working as an agent. Photo: Laurence Griffiths
3. BEN CLARK
This was one of eight senior appearances Clark made during the 2003/04 season, with the central defender earning most of his senior appearances at Hartlepool and Gateshead after leaving the Stadium of Light. He’s working with the Heed now, as an academy coach. Photo: Mike Hewitt
4. KEVIN KILBANE
A Republic of Ireland international, Kilbane enjoyed a strong career in the game and turned his hand to punditry after retiring. He also famously appeared on Dancing on Ice on ITV as he tried his luck at ice skating. Photo: Ben Radford
