Rescue teams called to two people in Sunderland Marina after boat sank in freezing temperatures

Two people, who were not wearing life jackets, had ended up in the water after the tender they were using to get to the shore from a boat in Sunderland Marina sank at around 4.50pm.
A spokesman for the coastguard said: “On our arrival both casualties were out of the water, working with the lifeboat crew we started immediate casualty care as they had both been in the freezing temperatures for some time.

Hide Ad“The two casualties had ended up in the water after using a tender to get to shore from a boat, neither had a life jacket and the tender had sank.
“The casualties refused any further treatment and went on their way.
“We always recommend use of life jackets when on the water, including when using tenders, this incident could have easily ended very differently.”
