Driver rescued after becoming trapped under wheel following Wearside accident
The incident happened at about 1.15am this morning on Northumberland Way, with a Renault Clio the only vehicle involved.
The car overturned and, when trying to get it the right way up again, the driver became trapped under the rear wheel.

Hide AdA spokesman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two appliances from Washington Fire Service attended.
“It was an alarm caused by persons believed trapped following a one-vehicle RTC involving a Renault Clio which had left the road and landed on its roof.
“While trying to right the vehicle, the driver became trapped under the rear wheel.
“Crews used chocks and blocks to stabilise the vehicle, a trolley jack was used to raise the vehicle off the casualty’s leg.

Hide Ad“The casualty was then placed onto a scoop stretcher and refused any further medical assistance.
“The passenger was self-rescued before the arrival of the fire service.
“Officers disconnected the battery and made the vehicle safe.”
