Northumbria Police are investigating reports that an e-scooter had crashed into a parked car in a Roker street.

Police received a report shortly after 10.30pm on Thursday, April 15 that a car had been damaged while it was parked on Ripon Street in the Roker area of Sunderland.

It is understood that an e-scooter driver had crashed into the vehicle before making off from the scene.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 10.30pm yesterday we received a report that a car had been damaged while it was parked on Ripon Street, Roker.

"Anyone with information or CCTV is asked to contact police online via our website's 'Tell Us Something' function and quote log 1247 150421."

Riders can access the e-scooters using a mobile app and in doing so, sign up to a list of rules – including inputting their drivers licence number.

Some of the rules state that riders must be aged 18 and over, they must not be used on pavements, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and do not use them while under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
