A Sunderland theatre is getting back in the habit as it prepares to welcome the return of a divine musical comedy.
Sister Act is coming back to the Sunderland Empire next year.
The hit musical, based on the 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, is being directed and choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood.
He said: “I am truly thrilled to be directing and choreographing this all new production of Sister Act, a show I fell in love with when I saw it a few years ago.
“I am currently putting together a dream creative team and can’t wait to get started next year on this hilarious and wonderful show.”
Sister Act tells the story of disco diva Deloris Van Cartier whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder.

Under protective custody, she is disguised as a nun and hidden in a convent.
It comes to the city next year after opening at the Curve, in Leicester.
The show’s producer, Jamie Wilson, said: “I am delighted to be presenting this all new production of Sister Act at both Curve, Leicester and on tour.”
Revel Horwood, best known as a judge on the BBC One celebrity dance contest, has a long list of credits as a director and choreographer, including a recent all-star concert of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies at the Royal Albert Hall, national tours of Fiddler on the Roof, Spend Spend Spend and Chess.
As a performer, his West End credits include Cats, Miss Saigon and Crazy For You.
He is currently starring as Miss Hannigan in the tour of Annie, a story about an orphan girl searching for her parents in New York. Miss Hannigan is the mean woman who runs the orphanage.
The show will run at the Sunderland Empire from Monday, September 5 to Saturday, September 10, next year.
