THE Royalty Theatre will be performing My Own Show by Lesley Bruce from Monday.

It centres on Fay who is host of the TV chat show Frankly Fay. She is worried that her career is on the wane – and her private life isn’t up to much either.

Rehearsals for the show were attended by Open All Hours actress Maggie Ollerenshaw.

Maggie is perhaps best remembered for her role as Wavy Mavis in the classic 80s sit-com, but has enjoyed a 40 year career appearing in shows such as All Creatures Great and Small.

“Maggie was in the original production of this play in 2006,” says director Paul Dunn, “when it opened at the Stephen Joseph theatre in Scarborough.

“I worked with her about 10 years ago doing some comedy workshops.

“When I saw she’d been in the play, I emailed her to ask if she would write a short message of good luck to our cast.”

Maggie happened to be in the area staying with friends in Durham.

Paul said: “Maggie got straight back to me, saying she’d love to come in to a rehearsal and help out.

“She even told us a couple of production tricks that they used in the original production which she gave us permission to use.”

Muriel Waine, who plays the part that Maggie created six years ago, said, “It was great to meet such a respected actress.

“To get the benefit of her experience of actually having worked on this play was invaluable.”

Tickets, priced £7.50, are available from the Tourist Information Centre, tel. 553 2000, or on the door (subject to availability).
