OUTRAGEOUS New York comedian Lewis Schaffer is bringing his Free until Famous tour to the region.
Presented by the Grinning Idiot Comedy Club, it’s a controversial and unpredictable show, with a twist. The comedian will perform for free, and then you pay what you think it was worth at the end.
A short visit to London in 2000 went very wrong for Lewis when love and marriage took him from his beloved New York.
Moving over the pond in the wrong direction (his words) meant swapping his life in The Big Apple for children, divorce and heartache in the UK.
Now trapped in a multi-occupancy council flat in Nunhead, a suburb of Peckham, Lewis is making the very best of a very bad situation. He was highlighted as one the top 10 comedy gigs at the Edinburgh Festival by The Independent.
But be warned: his show is not for the easily offended.
Lewis hosts his own weekly radio show on Resonance FM 104.4FM in London entitled “Voice of Americans with Lewis Schaffer of Nunhead.
He performs Free until Famous twice weekly at the Source Below in Soho, London. His show is the “longest running solo stand-up show in London and perhaps all of Britain”, running in excess of 250 performances since its inception in October 2008.
In 2009, he won the Malcolm Hardee Cunning Stunt Award for best publicity stunt at the Edinburgh Fringe and, in 2010, he was nominated for the Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality.
