TALENTED Sunderland actors are helping to breathe new live into a Broadway classic.
Jennifer Kirby, 20, and Matthew Banks, 18, are gearing up to star in a lavish production of 42nd Street by Durham Musical Theatre Company.
Jennifer will play the lead role of Peggy Sawyer, while Matthew will play Billy Lawler.
The pair have both been members of the Kathleen Knox School of Dance in Grangetown since they were three.
The role of Dorothy Brock is played by East Boldon science teacher Delia McNally, while Julian Marsh is played by Anthony Smith from Durham.
The production is part of the theatre’s 10th birthday celebrations and is the 17th show the theatre group has staged at the venue.
The musical is a tap-dancing extravaganza which tells the tale of a girl from nowhere who makes it to stardom overnight.
It features many toe-tapping tunes including 42 Street, Lullaby of Broadway, We’re in the Money and Shuffle off to Buffalo.
