YOUNG hospital patients received a festive treat when panto stars paid them a surprise visit.

Milkshake the cow, Jill and Lucy D’Oolally from Jack and the Beanstalk called into the University Hospital of North Durham to spread some Christmas cheer.

The trio, who are appearing at the Gala Theatre, Durham, entertained patients in the Treetops children’s ward with jokes and magic tricks.

Sheila Thompson, of the hospital’s Treetops play team, said: “The visit brought a smile to everyone’s faces and really put us in the mood for Christmas.”

Jack and the Beanstalk, featuring the voice of Brian Blessed as the giant Blunderboar, runs until Saturday, January 7.

Tickets for shows in January are still available. To book, visit the Gala box office, call 332 4041 or go online at www.galadurham.co.uk
