A PANTO in Durham City has been ditched.
Bosses at Sheer Enchantment have announced that they will no longer be staging Peter Pan in the Sands area of the city in December due to funding problems.
David Lee, director at the entertainment company, said: “It is with great regret that we have decided to withdraw our production of Peter Pan in Durham this forthcoming pantomime season.
“An unexpected change of circumstances with our financial backers means we cannot rely upon the required critical underwriting for the production and, despite projections being on track, the situation is also exacerbated by the general recession throughout the UK making everyone tighten their belts.
“All in all, this year, the risks are just too great for a new concept such as the Big Top Panto Experience.
“We are pleased to confirm all people who have already bought tickets will receive refunds via the online box office supplier.”
He said he wanted to thank the Freeman of the City of Durham and businesses who had supported the venture.
