Yates in Burdon Road has been closed for three weeks while £200,000 worth of changes have been made to its interiors.

The chain pub will unveil the changes, which include making the bar more open plan, when it reopens for business on March 25.

Jamie Thompson, general manager of Yates Sunderland, said: “It’s a really exciting time for us. Our bar is one of the most popular locally, and this investment will help make it even better for our loyal customers. With a refreshed, open and airy bar, we’re confident that we will appeal to more families looking for somewhere to indulge in a nice meal during the day, before we welcome the lively crowds in the evenings.”

As well as a new look, the bar is launching a new menu, featuring a Mexicana section, and introducing a new alternative/cabaret night once a month.

The changes have created 11 new jobs at the bar.
