GLASTONBURY-esque conditions prevailed at the first ever Split Feastival.
Visitors to the weekend’s food festival at Herrington Country Park were met by acres of mud and a deluge of rain, but it couldn’t dampen their spirits – or their appetite for the foods on offer.
One of the organisers Martyn McFadden said: “Obviously you can’t trust the British weather, but we put some hay down, people had a few beers, and every one enjoyed the food.
“We even had kids sliding about in the mud, like at Glastonbury. I think it shows the spirit of the people of Sunderland that they wouldn’t be beaten by the weather.”
The Split team, who are behind Ashbrooke’s Split Festival, are hoping to stage more events in the city in the future.
