SATURDAY night before derby day and it’s testament to Lola’s popularity that it can still draw in the crowds even though the town centre was dead.
I popped in with friend Helen Little, pictured right, and at a time when many of the pubs in town are shutting up shop, it’s refreshing to find somewhere that’s still managing to pull in the punters.
The reason this Vine Place venue seems to fare better than others is because it’s got its own Lola’s niche.
Decor-wise, it’s got a vintage meets Buddha theme going on, while entertainment-wise it constantly mixes things up from bongo players to saxophonists.
This month, they’ve also got a host of guest DJs behind the decks with Chris Q playing this Saturday.
