Klute is alive and kicking

A MAKEOVER has helped to breathe new life into a once ailing Durham City nightspot.

Rumours were once rife that Klute, on Elvet Riverside, was shutting up shop, but it was merely polishing up its glitter balls as part of a refurbishment.

It’s one that’s helped to turn fortunes around at the student haunt.

Four months on, Klute is now hosting sell-out events.

Manager Andrew Golding said: “It has got much busier. Every night has picked up 100 per cent – the business has turned around since January with massive growth.”

An appearance by S Club 3 – former members of pop outfit S Club 7 – was sold out in five hours online before the club even had chance to give out a single flyer, and Ministry of Sound with DJ R3wire was also a sell-out success.

He added: “Aside from the special events, weekly club nights have also become even more popular, whether its classic cheese, disco or burlesque.

“It’s a big party experience every night of the week now, and they’re not for the feint-hearted.”
