A SECOND member of Super Furry Animals is playing Sunderland, just weeks after the band’s frontman went down a storm.
Bass guitar player Guto Pryce, who helped propel the Welsh band to success, will play Pop Recs Ltd with his band Gulp. They will play the Fawcett Street record shop just weeks after Gruff Rhys raised the roof with his set earlier in the month. Gulp sees Guto team up with singer Lindsey Leven for music that fuses folk vocals with bass, electronic drums and bass.
Dave Harper from Frankie & the Heartstrings, who set up Pop Recs, said: “They are signed to Sonic Cathedral, a label set up by Nathaniel Cramp, who went to uni here. He’s been a great help to us.
“Gulp are incredible live, quite spacey, really beautiful. I think they’ll be so big next year they won’t be able to play the shop.” Since it was set up last year, Pop Recs has brought a host of big names to Sunderland including Badly Drawn Boy, Edwyn Collins and Franz Ferdinand.
l Gulp play Pop Recs Ltd in Fawcett Street on September 27. Doors at 6pm for a 7pm start. Entry is free.
