NORTH East pop acts say they’re excited about returning to home turf for a music extravaganza.
This week, the Echo reported on how the Stadium of Light will cap off its summer of music with North East Live, which will feature a host of pop acts over an eight-hour long pop fest.
Amelia Lily will be first on stage at 2.30pm on June 22 with JLS headlining the concert which will end by 11pm. In between, the thousands who are expected to pack the stadium will be treated to performances from a pick ‘n’ mix of pop with sets from The Wanted, Rita Ora, Little Mix, Lawson, Conor Maynard, Stooshe and Union J, with one more big name pop act to be announced by the end of this week.
It’s set to be a triumphant home-coming for Little Mix whose members Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards are from South Shields and Boro lass Amelia Lily.
Perrie, who has enjoyed two number 1 singles with the band, said: “We are so happy to be playing North East Live, our biggest hometown show to date.”
Amelia Lily, who will perform singles You Bring Me Joy and Shut Up on the day, said: “I am so thrilled to be part of such a big pop line up, the fact it’s the North East makes it even more special.”
The pop fest will bring to a close this summer’s series of gigs at the home of the Black Cats which sees Bon Jovi perform on June 13 and Rihanna on June 20.
Tickets still remain for both these gigs but Rihanna is almost a sell out.
Bosses hope up to 40,000 will attend North East Live, helping to make it a permanent fixture on the annual music calendar.
