Ticket sales are soaring for a special concert in South Tyneside, which will feature homecoming performances from three of the borough’s biggest stars.
Little Mix, whose members Perrie Edwards and Jade Thirlwall are from South Shields, will be appearing at the town’s Bents Park on Sunday, August 25, for Sound Waves 2013.
The bank holiday concert, which is being co-headlined by Little Mix and McFly, will also feature a performance by fellow South Shields singer Joe McElderry, as well as two other UK acts.
Tickets for the event, organised by South Tyneside Council, are already in high demand, with sales soaring at one venue in particular, which has strong links to two of the concert’s hometown stars.
Before being crowned X Factor champions in 2009 and 2011 respectively, Joe McElderry and Jade Thirlwall were both regulars at The Customs House arts centre, at Mill Dam, South Shields.
Jade performed in several of the venue’s amateur productions, while Joe also took on starring roles and worked part-time as a singing waiter.
Both were also previously crowned Young Performer of the Year in the Pride of South Tyneside Awards, which were at The Customs House.
Since achieving international success Jade and Joe, who were also members of The Custom Houses’ youth development programme, have both made low-key returns to the venue, but haven’t yet made a return to The Customs House stage. Sound Waves 2013 will be their biggest performance to date in South Shields, with The Customs House working alongside South Tyneside Council to sell tickets and promote the open air event.
Ray Spencer, director at The Customs House, said: “Even before they hit the big time it was obvious Jade and Joe were going to be stars.
“We had the honour of seeing their talents grow at the Customs House and we’re delighted to be supporting their return to South Shields to perform at Bents Park later this summer.”
Sound Waves 2013, which is being co-headlined by Little Mix and boyband McFly, will also feature special performances by Joe McElderry, as well as Britain’s Got Talent finalists Luminites and boyband The Vamps.
