A SUNDERLAND musician has caused waves across the pond by singing the blues.
Trevor Sewell, from Millfield, has returned from Hollywood with a prestigious music award after impressing contest judges with his sound, which is honed at his studio on Wearside.
He won in the Best Blues category in the Hollywood Music in Media Awards at a glittering ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard.
It’s an award Trevor, who is well known on the local blues scene, also won in 2011.
Trevor said: “It was my second time in LA this year and it was a fantastic experience all round.
“My category included Andy Fraser from Free who is one of my all time favourite bass players so the competition was really very stiff and it was amazing when they called my name out.
“I also got the chance to jam with some really great LA musicians while I was there and do a couple of radio sessions and shows of my own.
“Perhaps the best thing was that my new album, Independence, was released on the same day as the awards and the winning track, The Train, is actually the first track on the new album.”
l You can catch the Trevor Sewell Band in the region when they play The Cluny, Newcastle, on December 27.
