Easington Colliery Brass Band received the donation from Persimmon Homes Durham as part of its year-long initiative to support communities.

In an effort to preserve the northern heritage of the brass band’s association with mining traditions, the money will be used to buy new uniforms.

The band, which established itself in 1915, is preparing to play at concerts around the North East and Yorkshire to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the colliery disaster.
