A CLASSIC opera is on song for a Wearside screening.
Gioachino Rossini’s La Donna Del Lago will be screened live from the world-famous Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden, to Empire Cinema in Sunniside.
This new production of the opera by renowned English director, John Fulljames, will be screened on Monday at 6.45pm and is the penultimate screening from this year’s Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season.
Based in Renaissance Scotland, the story follows King James V who becomes entranced with a beautiful woman called Elena, the lady of the lake. Trouble ensues when King James V learns to his dismay that Elena is not only the daughter of his enemy, Douglas, who is fighting with the clans against his rule, but also does not love him back.
Bringing it to life is three of the leading bel canto voices of our time, Juan Diego Flórez, Joyce DiDonato and Colin Lee.
Jon Nutton, marketing director of Empire Cinemas, said: “We are delighted to offer cinemagoers the chance to see such an iconic opera re-mastered by one of Britain’s finest directors, John Fulljames.
“As the penultimate screening of the current Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season, which has seen sell-out performances, the screening of La Donna Del Lago is a great opportunity for those living outside of London to see what promises to be an unforgettable performance.”
