EMPIRE Cinema Sunderland will next week screen The Royal Ballet’s new production of Don Quixote

As part of the Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season, the Sunniside-based cinema will screen Carlos Acosta’s new production of Don Quixote live on Wednesday.

Cinema audiences will be able to watch the action live as it takes place at Covent Garden’s Royal Opera House.

Carlos Acosta, world famous for his performances as the young barber Basilio, stars with Olivier Award-winning principal Marianela Nunez in this ballet, a tale of friendship, love and loyalty.

The world-renowned Royal Ballet will bring to life the tale of the elderly gentleman “knight” Don Quixote who is in search of adventure and the woman of his dreams. But his fantasies only lead him into trouble, not to mention an argument with a windmill.

The central romance of Basilio and Kitri takes place amid the action and bustle of a changing Spanish world.

This vibrant and lavish new production is in collaboration with award-winning West End designers Tim Hatley (from Spamalot and Shrek) and Hugh Vanstone.

Jon Nutton, marketing director at Empire Cinemas, said: “It is an absolute pleasure to be able to screen Don Quixote as it is performed live on stage at the Royal Opera House. We are delighted to show an iconic family ballet as part of our Empire Arts programme.”

The screening will take place at 7.15pm.
