Diners will be able to try food created by the country’s top English Italian chef as part of Sunderland’s first Restaurant Week.

Angelo’s Ristorante in West Sunniside is among the dozens of eateries taking part in the inaugural event, which runs from September 24 to October 2.

The city centre restaurant is home to chef Nello Russo, who was crowned English Italian Chef of the Year for the second year in succession earlier this week.

Now Angelo’s Ristorante is giving diners the chance to try his award-winning food for a special discount rate after signing up to the city’s first ever Eat Drink Sunderland Restaurant Week.

From Monday September 26 until Thursday 29, food-lovers can enjoy a two course meal for £15 per person, featuring a choice of three starters and four main courses.

More than 50 restaurants and cafes offering a feast of international flavours are taking part in Restaurant Week, all running special day offers to entice visitors.

Led by Sunderland BID, the initiative is also being supported by a number of restaurants outside of the city centre, including Karbon Grill at the new Hilton Garden Inn and Liberty Brown at Wessington Way.

Ken Dunbar, chief executive of Sunderland BID, is hoping the week will entice visitors from all over the North East into the city to try something new, and is thrilled that the award-winning Angelo’s is taking part.

“To have the best English Italian chef in the whole of the UK based here in Sunderland is incredible, but to anyone who knows of Sunderland’s restaurant scene it will probably come as no big surprise,” he said.

“The variation and quality of our restaurants is second to none, and we decided it was perhaps time to showcase what we have here to the rest of the region and beyond.

“We are delighted with the amount of eateries who rushed to sign up to this event and we can promise it’s going to be a big success. No matter what sort of food you like, you’ll find it on offer somewhere at a fantastic discounted rate during Eat Drink Sunderland Restaurant week.”
