This will be followed by two days of family entertainment, on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16, with Hey, Presto! at the Gala Theatre, which is also part of Durham Book Festival.

Adam Deathe, business engagement manager at Durham BID, said: “We’re really looking forward to this month’s Live InDurham weekend. We’ve pulled together a vibrant and engaging programme of events so, as always, there is something for everyone in the city.

“The special Live InDurham evening of entertainment on Thursday promises to be one not to miss. Whatever your musical style, we’ll have a variety of some of the best local talent on offer across four great venues in the heart of Durham City.”

Based on the book by Nadia Shireen and accompanying theatre production, the Hey, Presto! events will offer music and craft workshops for families.

Visitors can learn some of the songs from the show and make a costume or prop with visiting artist Kate Eccles. There will also be face painting, balloon modelling and storytelling from Waterstones Durham.

Full details of the events are available on the Durham BID website. All events are free but families are advised to book tickets to the Hey, Presto! activities as places are limited.
