SCHOOLCHILDREN brought a slice of sunshine to rain-hit Sunderland.

Sandhill School’s carnival featured singing, dancing, drumming and circus tricks which entertained shoppers in the city centre.

Jo Rose is music teacher as well as assistant head at the school.

She said Year Eight pupils had worked tirelessly to get ready for the performance as part of creativity week at the school.

Jo added: “In that time every student did different activities, we took the theme of the Olympics and they had to produce a one hour performance.

“They did different workshops where they made and designed their own T-shirts, they learned drumming, circus skills and they did sculptures.”

The students performed the fruits of their labours to a crowd in Market Square and there was plenty of onlookers getting into the carnival vibe.
