THE 70th anniversary of the Sunderland Pianoforte Society continued with a recital at Sunderland Museum
It was given by the brilliant young Scottish pianist Christopher Guild who was sponsored by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, a scheme which encourages artists with talent.
The recital was well attended by an enthusiastic audience who enjoyed music by Bach, Chopin, Janacek and Mussorgsky. The sonata by Back was well performed and Janacek’s rarely-heard In The Mists delighted the audience who also enjoyed some Chopin Preludes.
After the interval, there was a powerful performance of Mussorgsky’s Pictures At An Exhibition and more.
It is encouraging to see live, classical music so well supported, particularly by children and young people who we hope will continue to attend.
* The next society recital will be Tuesday, April 9, at the Museum and Winter Gardens at 7.15pm, given by Jayson Gillham.
