Sunderland children chosen to perform with One Direction

STARRY-EYED Wearside youngsters are heading south to perform with heart-throbs One Direction.

More than 30 students from Trish and Trina’s Performance Academy, which meets at Washington Arts Centre, will line up alongside the X Factor favourites at London’s O2 Arena on Sunday.

Trina Walker, who runs classes with her sister Trish Robson, said the school regularly performed in the capital, but this was a step up from its previous gigs.

Trish and Trina were originally approached by a representative from a production company who had seen their pupils on a visit to the region.

Trina, 44, said: “We first got asked to perform in London about 11 years ago by a guy who had seen us perform up here.”

That first performance caught the eye of several other London production companies, and the pair soon found themselves and their pupils in regular demand to perform at prestigious venues.

“We perform a lot in London, in the West End,” said Trina. “It is quite a regular thing.

“We have performed at the Royal Albert Hall and now we have ben asked by a production company to perform at the O2 alongside One Direction.

“A lot of production companies in the West End have heard about us and asked ‘can you come along and support us?’

“But this is probably the biggest thing we have done and are likely to do.”

The pupils range in age from six to 21, but news of their latest booking was greeted with universal delight. “They were more than happy, regardless of age,” said Trina.

“They are just over the moon about it – it is like a dream come true.

Trish and Trina will be taking 34 pupils down to London at the weekend, but who exactly is the most thrilled at the prospect of meeting Niall, Zayn, Liam, Harry Styles and Louis?

“It think it could be me,” admitted Trina.
