FAMILIES are invited to spend a night in the museum next Saturday.

Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens is hosting a War Games family night, including First World War exhibitions, interactive activities, competitions and historic re-enactments from the Time Bandits drama group.

It also includes a chance to be the first to visit to the War Games exhibition on loan from the V&A Museum of Childhood in London, which will be on display until September.

The exhibition explores how children re-enact war through imaginative play and features toy soldiers, horses, action figures, books and comics from 1800 to the present day.

Deputy Leader of Sunderland City Council, Councillor Harry Trueman said: “This exciting, unusual event is a fantastic opportunity for young people and their families to re-live some of the First World War experiences of their great, great-great grandparents, recreated and re-enacted at the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. “I hope as many people as possible take this unique opportunity to get involved, and accept our invitation to a ‘night in the museum’ and an exciting programme of events and activities.”
