ALL the fun of the fair will return to Wearside.
Last June, Herrington Country Park played host to the largest fun fair in the North East after The Hoppings in Newcastle was cancelled over a rent row.
It was feared the Sunderland event would prove to be a one-off after it was confirmed The Hoppings would be returning to Tyneside’s Town Moor this year.
However, organisers have now announced the return of the country park event they describe as “the largest fun fair in the North East.”
It’s hoped the event, which will take place from August 15-25, will attract thousands of people once again.
Over the course of 10 days, there will be more than 100 rides and games to enjoy in the shadow of Penshaw Monument. Chris Alexander, chief operating officer at Sunderland Live, said: “After last year’s success we are thrilled to be able to bring this event back to Sunderland.
“We have taken great care to ensure that the fair takes place during the school summer holidays this year to give everyone plenty of chances to enjoy what promises to be a great family fun day out.”
Colin Noble, of Nobles Funfair, said: “We are looking to build on the event on an annual basis and have bespoke sponsorship opportunities available.”
l The fair’s opening times are 2pm-9pm Monday-Thursday, 2pm-10pm Friday and Saturday, 2pm-8pm Sunday and 1pm-9pm on Bank Holiday Monday. Car Parking is £2 per car. Admission to the event is free, though there will be charges for rides.
