TAKE your seats at the Royal Opera House – without leaving Wearside,
The new Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season starts tonight at Empire Cinema with the Puccini opera Turandot.
Over the coming months, a number of ballets and operas will be beamed live on to the big screen at the Sunniside cinema.
Turandot, a tale of disguised identities, riddles, ritual executions and triumphant love, features singer Lise Lindstrom as she makes her Royal Opera debut alongside Marco Berti, a renowned Puccinian singer.
Set to an Italian Opera, Turandot tells the story of Princess Turandot who has sworn that no man shall marry her unless he can correctly answer three riddles.
Prince Calaf, captivated by Turandot’s beauty, then takes up the challenge, determined to win her heart or die in the attempt.
Jon Nutton, marketing director of Empire Cinemas, said: “We’re thrilled to see the return of the Royal Opera House Live Cinema Season to Empire Cinemas, and Turandot is a fantastic opera to start the season off in style.
“Our Empire Arts screenings are continuing to grow in popularity, many being sell-out shows.”
l Turandot will be screened at Empire Cinema at 7.15pm.
