Ross Noble’s court date in Sunderland

Waiting for Video...

COMEDIAN Ross Noble wheeled into Wearside today to film part of his new television show.

The long-haired funnyman, from Cramlington, is making the second series of his ‘Freewheeling’ programme for comedy channel Dave.

He has been asking fans on social network site Twitter to suggest things for him to do and be part of the show.

Noble – famed for his surreal improvisations – ended up in Sunderland after Fulwell man Brian Aslett tweeted him to ask for support at a case at the city’s county court.

The 35-year-old Nissan worker said: “I didn’t think he’d get back in touch.

“I’m over the moon that he did. It was only a minor case, which is what makes this so funny.

“I got the day off work as well which is obviously a benefit on a day like this.

“It’s been absolutely ridiculous. When I sent the tweet, I never expected anything like this, but fair play. It has been fantastic.”

Noble took to Twitter to appeal for Sunderland artists to turn up at the court to illustrate the court case. About 30 people turned up and sketched placards outside the court in John Street.

In typically wacky style, Noble and his followers almost missed the case after turning up at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court by mistake.

The stand-up, a regular of television panel shows, also got 80s pop icon Billy Ocean to record a version of When The Going Gets Tough at a gig in Newcastle on Thursday.

Noble told the Echo: “I’m having a great time.

“The people of Sunderland – and it breaks my heart to say this as a man from North of the Tyne – have been phenomenal and the response has been really, really good.

“We’ve had people tweet me to get involved in their lives and I’ve come down here and there’s a fella called Brian who was in court this morning on a very minor traffic incident.

“I’ve turned this into a big story and then we’ve got some really talented artists who have come down and made pictures of what’s happening.”

To find out what happened in the court case, and the rest of the Freewheeling fun, tune into the show when it airs on Dave later this year.
