ONE of the world’s biggest bands, Coldplay, are set to rock the Stadium of Light.
The four-piece, who wowed Glastonbury in June, have announced they will perform at the home of the Black Cats on June 7 next year.
Fronted by Chris Martin, husband of Hollywood superstar Gwyneth Paltrow, the band’s gig is one of a series of UK stadium dates to coincide with new album Mylo Xyloto.
It hit the No. 1 spot in 32 countries after its release two weeks ago, including the UK.
It also reached No. 1 in all 35 iTunes stores around the world, breaking the record for the highest number of download sales in one week.
Tickets for their Wearside show, which was announced just days after it was revealed Red Hot Chili Peppers will also play Sunderland next summer, will go on sale next Friday from 9am.
SAFC’s chief executive Margaret Byrne said: “To have established the Stadium of Light as one of the top music venues in the country in just three years is a fantastic achievement, and testament to the hard work and dedication of our concerts team.
“To welcome a band of the profile of Coldplay, alongside our Red Hot Chili Peppers show, highlights how our reputation and ability to deliver is now widely recognised across the music industry.”
