A CHORUS of support has been given to a crowd-funding campaign backing a day packed with music performances.

The Bunker will run the Mackem Mash Up at the Pop Recs shop in Fawcett Street on Sunday, July 13, showcasing funk, soul, indie and rock acts, with workshops in DJing, djembe drumming and vocal games to be run by apprentices.

The Bunker, which is based in Stockton Road and helps develop music and arts, missed out on funding up for grabs for 18 events as part of the Superact Our Big Gig scheme. But the project’s bosses liked Sunderland’s bid, so pledged £250 towards the £830 cost to run the day, with £140 needed to hit the target.

Hannah Matterson, The Bunker’s funding co-ordinator, said: “We were disappointed not to receive the initial funding, however our crowd-funding campaign has been exciting and given us something to work towards.

“It’s important that we try to engage more people with music across the city, from all different backgrounds.

“This project will also provide local musicians with a day that is dedicated to supporting their work and giving them the recognition they deserve.” Cash can be pledged until Tuesday via spacehive.com/mackemmashup. Anyone who would like more details can call The Bunker on 567 1777 or email info@bunkeruk.com.
